Lauren Smith was named assistant women’s golf coach at Georgia State in January 2015.
In her first season, she helped guide a young Panther team to a fifth place finish at the Sun Belt Championship with Lauren Court finishing in the top 10 after being named second team all-conference.
The youth movement continued in her second year as freshman Jemima Gregson earned All-Sun Belt Second-Team honors after three top 10 finishes during the year.
Smith came to Georgia State after a stint as assistant coach at her alma mater Appalachian State in 2013-14 and as an assistant golf pro at The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club in Chapel Hill, N.C.
A record-setting collegiate golfer at Appalachian State, Smith wrote her name into the school record books for lowest 18-hole score (69), the lowest 36-hole score (142) and the lowest 54-hole score (216).
Smith won two individual golf championships at the UD Hilton Head Invitational in 2013 and the Winthrop Intercollegiate in 2011. Her career stroke average at Appalachian State is second all-time.
A native of Salisbury, N.C., Smith began her college career at UNC Greensboro, playing all 10 tournament of her freshman season. During her freshman year, she played in Georgia State’s John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing, carding a best round 73 on the course she will now calls home.
At Salisbury High School, Smith was a four-time player of the year in the North Piedmont Conference.
She graduated from Appalachian State with a degree in recreation management and a minor in communications, while also serving as an intern in the Mountaineer Development office.
Born April 4, 1990, Lauren is the daughter of Keenan and Tracy Smith and has a sister, Brooke.
