Georgia State's Cheerleaders earned first place in the College Small Coed 6 Division to claim status as a National Champion Sunday after the finals of the Cheersport National High School Cheer, All-Star Cheer, College Cheer, and Dance National Championships held at The Georgia World Congress Center Feb. 13-14.

The Panther Cheerleaders scored on top in the Small Coed Level 6 division above second-place Georgia Tech, West Alabama, The University of Guelph from Canada, and Virginia Tech.

"This is a great group of student-athletes," head coach Darryl Lyons said."In the last two months of practices over the holiday break, the daily 6 a.m. practices, some two-a-days,some late-night practices, injuries, challenges, as well as changes to the routine, this group has stayed focused on its goal to win. I am so grateful to have coached them and been able to see them grow as better student-athletes and better leaders for the future."

The GSU teams will be back in action this week supporting your basketball  Panthers on Thursday and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 20.

Saturday's game is the annual Basketball Spirit Day, where young cheer and dance athletes can come and perform with our spirit teams. The event fee is $30 per participant.
