What you need to know:
* Georgia State split a pair of games at Troy Saturday, winning Game 2 after falling in Game 1.
* Both games were decided by just one run as the Trojans won 4-3 in Game 1 and the Panthers won 6-5 in Game 2.
* GSU and Troy play the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
TROY, Ala. - Georgia State’s softball team split a Sun Belt doubleheader at Troy Saturday, winning Game 2 6-5 after losing Game 1 4-3. The Panthers and Trojans will play the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
Game 1: Troy 4, GSU 3
Georgia State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning off an RBI double by Ivie Drake and a RBI by Megan Litumbe. The Trojans made it a 2-1 game in the second before taking the lead with three runs in the fourth. Georgia State got a run back in the sixth, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Peyton Worsham allowed just one earned run over 3.2 innings, but the Panther defense committed three errors and the Trojans were able to capitalize.
Game 2: GSU 6, Troy 5
Georgia State scored in the first inning again in Game 2 with a solo home run off the bat of Drake, her second of the season. Troy went on top 2-1 in the bottom of the first, but Kensey Caldwell’s three-run homer in the top of the fourth helped Georgia State go back in front 5-2.
Troy tied the game with a pair of long balls in the fifth inning and the game was locked at 5-5 heading into the seventh. Caldwell broke the deadlock with an RBI single to the shortstop that brought home Morgan Brown to give the Panthers the 6-5 advantage. Troy had the tying run on third and the winning run on second in the home half, but Kinsley Jennings got the final out to earn the win, her fifth of the season.
With the split, Georgia State moves to 17-10 on the season and 4-1 in the Sun Belt. The Panthers and Trojan meet Sunday at 1 p.m. ET for the series finale.
