ATLANTA- The Georgia State women’s soccer program will recognize alumni from the 1997 team for the 20th anniversary of its trip to the NCAA tournament during halftime of the Oct. 1 match against Louisiana.

The 1997 team is the only team in program history to win the conference championship and play in the NCAA tournament. In the TAAC tournament, hosted by Georgia State, the Panthers cruised to wins over Jacksonville State and Centenary, before earning a 2-0 victory over UCF to stamp their ticket to an NCAA Play-In match.

GSU went 18-4-2 overall, 6-1-1 in the TAAC, in 1997 and earned the most wins in a season in program history. The team scored a program-high 73 goals and had six student-athletes named All-TAAC.

Then-senior Kara Fitzgerald leads the records book in 10 categories and ranks second six categories. Her 157 career goals, including 14 game-winners and one hat-trick, are among her category-leading stats. The Rockford, Ill. native was a 1997 All-American candidate and is a 2017 GSU Hall of Fame inductee.

Kickoff against Louisiana is set for noon.
