ATLANTA -- Fans excited for the upcoming basketball season can see both the Georgia State men’s and women’s teams in action for the first time this season at GSU JAM, a free event open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 19. The event will take place at the GSU Sports Arena and also serve as a pep rally for the Oct. 21 homecoming football game against Troy.

Fans can get their first glimpse of the men’s basketball team this Saturday, Oct. 14, at an open scrimmage on the GSU Perimeter Decatur Campus. Head coach Ron’s Hunter’s squad will practice and play for approximately two hours and fans are encouraged to come watch. Parking and admission are free of charge. The event will start at 2 p.m.

GSU JAM returns as the first chance to see both programs up close. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the event getting underway at 6 p.m. with a DJ and live music.

A first for this year, the Georgia State University Police Department will be playing a scrimmage against members of the men’s basketball team. The two will also do a skills competition against each other.

After the skills competition, Coach Hunter will address the crowd as the Panthers prepare for the start of the season.

Three students will also have the opportunity to win some great prizes, include a free GSU meal plan, $100 Kroger gift card and $50 Boston Market card.

The first 500 students in attendance will also receive a voucher for a free Papa John’s Large 1-Topping pizza.

The men’s basketball team is coming off a fourth-straight winning season that included 20 wins and another postseason appearance. The women’s basketball team features seven newcomers and will not have a single senior as the Panthers open the season at Florida.

Less than 100 men’s basketball season tickets currently remain available for purchase in the lower reserved section. The men will play 14 home contests this winter at the GSU Sports Arena. Season tickets are now on-sale by calling 404-413-4020 or visiting GeorgiaStateSports.com.
