What you need to know:

Georgia State’s Arina Taluyenko earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors Wednesday afternoon. The freshman from Almaty, Kazakhstan earned a record of 3-1 in singles and doubles matches last weekend at Louisville.

* Taluyenko is a perfect 5-0 in singles matches on the season. Playing in the No. 1 spot, she ousted Miami OH’s Nelli Ponomareva 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 to register her fifth straight singles win. Her seven total wins this year is tops on the Panthers.

* GSU and Taluyenko will be back in action for their first home match this Saturday. The Panthers host Winthrop at 11 a.m. and UAB at 4 p.m. Both matches will be held at Piedmont Park.


ATLANTA – Georgia State’s Arina Taluyenko earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors Wednesday afternoon.

This past weekend, Taluyenko continued her high level of play out in Louisville, Ky. On Friday, the Kazakhstan native prevailed over Louisville’s Mariana Humberg 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. On Saturday, Taluyenko teamed up with Tarani Kamoe to clinch the doubles point with a 7-6 victory against Miami OH’s Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina.

The freshman helped propel the Panthers to their third win of the season with a victory over Ponomareva in the No. 1 spot 6-4, 0-6, 6-4.

Taluyenko posted a 3-1 record on the weekend and improved her singles record to a perfect 5-0 on the season.
