Wells and Whittaker are the first two throwers in GSU history to qualify for the event. Wells will be competing in the hammer throw and Whittaker will be throwing the shot put. Both athletes hold the Georgia State record in their respective event.
Wells was in College Station, Texas earlier this year competing at the 2017 Indoor Track and Field Championships where she earned All-America status in the weight throw. She was the first female track and field athlete at GSU to accomplish the feat.
The hammer is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET Thursday in Eugene. The shot put will being around 9:40 p.m. ET. Portions of the championships will be broadcasted on the ESPN networks. Thursday's coverage begins on ESPN3 at 4:30 p.m. ET and switches to ESPN2 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
