ATLANTA – Georgia State head coach Ron Hunter announced the signing of two highly-touted high school stars on Wednesday as Nelson Phillips of Warner Robins, Ga., and Kavonte Ivery of Stockbridge, Ga., were signed to National Letters of Intent.

Phillips is a 4-star prospect from Warner Robins High School is currently ranked as the No. 5 prospect in Georgia, while Ivery is a 6-6 3-star forward out of Stockbridge High School has been ranked as high as the No. 26 prospect in the state of Georgia.

“Kavonte and Nelson are two extremely talented young men who we believe will have a major impact at Georgia State,” head coach Ron Hunter said. “We are now recruiting the best players in the state of Georgia and are seeing a great deal of interest in our program because of the success we have had. We are excited to have Kavonte and Nelson join us next season and look forward to continuing to build our program with some of the best players in the state.”

Phillips, who is ranked among the top 100 players in the country by 247Sports.com, averaged 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals per game as a junior at Warner Robins High School. Along with being named All-State First Team, Phillips garnered all-region, all-county and Region 5-A Player of the Year honors.

Ivery averaged a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds per game for the Tigers as a junior, while earning All-Henry County First Team honors. He was also named the Region 4-AAAAA Player of the year and was an All-Metro selection. 

Along with his talent on the court, Ivery holds a 4.0 GPA

Georgia State is expected to sign one more player in the spring as Hunter looks to replace two seniors following the season.
