With its 33-30 victory at Texas State, Georgia State has won six of its last seven games to earn bowl eligibility for the second time in three seasons.
The Panthers have won five straight road games. Georgia State is one just three FBS teams with five or more road wins this season, along with Oklahoma State (6) and San Diego State (5).
Georgia State has used fourth-quarter comebacks in its last two wins. The Panthers scored the winning touchdown with six minutes to play against Texas State and with 2:31 left one game earlier at Georgia Southern.
Kyler Neal scored the game-winning touchdown at Texas State on a 22-yard run. That was his 12th career rushing touchdown, tying the Georgia State record.
Brandon Wright set school records for field goals made (4) and points by kicking (15) in a game. He made two 48-yard field goals, equalling his career long, and also hit from 22 and 29 yards. Wright had six touchbacks on eight kickoffs, and averaged 46.3 yards on three punts, including a 66-yard boot.
Sophomore receiver Devin Gentry had three catches for 120 yards, including touchdowns of 34 and 71 yards.
Senior Glenn Smith rushed for a career-high 98 yards and totalled 205 all-purpose yards, also a career best. He caught five passes for 45 yards and returned three kickoffs for 62 yards.
Conner Manning amassed 428 yards of total offense, including a career-high 60 yards rushing on seven attempts. He had two long runs to set up fourth-quarter scores. After Texas State tied the game at 23-all, Manning started the Panthers' next drive with a career-long 44-yard run down to the Texas State 21, leading to a go-ahead field goal. Then after Texas State regained the lead at 30-26 with eight minutes left, Manning started GSU's game-winning drive with a 19-yard rush.
Julien Laurent blocked PAT that kept the score tied at 23-all in the fourth quarter was the second of his career. He also had a crucial blocked PAT at New Mexico State in 2015 that helped the Panthers to a 34-32 win for their first Sun Belt victory.
Sophomore Penny Hart is the Sun Belt's leading receiver with 7.2 receptions per game (8th FBS), 106.8 yards per game (4th FBS) and eight touchdowns (19th FBS).
The Panthers are off this week before finishing the season with home games vs. Appalachian State (Nov. 25) and Idaho (Dec. 2) at Georgia State Stadium.
