ATLANTA- The Georgia State men’s tennis team will open its spring slate at the FSU Spring Invite this weekend, facing in-state foe Mercer to open the tournament.
This is the second season in-a-row that the Panthers will open dual play at the FSU Spring Invite, defeating host then-No. 27 Florida State to win the tournament last season. The field consists of eight teams, including Louisiana and North Florida, with each team playing a guaranteed three matches.
Georgia State had an impressive tournament season in the fall, with junior Giles Hussey and freshman Kevin Huynh winning their doubles bracket at the GT Fall Invite and earning a No. 60 ITA doubles ranking.
The Panthers return six student-athletes from last year’s squad, including four starters. The team is looking to build on its success from last year, achieving a program-high ITA No. 30 ranking and earning a Sun Belt title.
The tournament was originally scheduled to be played outdoors, but weather concerns pushed the matches inside.
GSU is scheduled for a 2:30 first serve Saturday, with singles to be played first. The team will play either Louisiana or Florida State for its second match of the weekend, with the final matches to be played Sunday.
