Brett Surrency, a member of the Georgia State men's soccer coaching staff since 2005, was promoted to head coach in June 2010.

Surrency served as the Panthers' top assistant coach for the last four seasons (2006-09), following one year as a graduate assistant at GSU.

In his role as Georgia State's top assistant, Surrency was involved in all aspects of coaching, scouting, recruiting and team administration.

He has also worked with the Georgia Soccer Olympic Development program, coaching the 1995 age group state team.

Before joining the GSU program in 2005, Surrency spent one season (2004) as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Jacksonville University.

Surrency was a standout player for the Dolphins, starting four years (2000-03), including three seasons as team captain. He earned first-team all-Atlantic Sun Conference honors as a senior and second-team accolades as a sophomore. He was recognized by the JU program as the team's most valuable player in 2003 and was awarded the athletic department's Douglas B. Milne Award for sportsmanship. A member of the conference's all-academic team all four years, Surrency was named to the 2003 NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-Region team.

Named to the Atlantic Sun Conference all-academic team all four years, Surrency graduated cum laude from Jacksonville in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in sports administration. He added a master's degree in sports administration from Georgia State in 2007.

He has earned the United States Soccer Federation National B License and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

A native of Gainesville, Fla., Surrency is married to the former Crystal Cantrell.
