Former Georgia State right-handed pitcher David Buchanan earned the start for the North squad in Tuesday night's Class A South Atlantic League All-Star game. The Peachtree City native went one inning, striking out two and allowing just one hit.
The Southern Division All-Stars scored five runs in the third inning to top the Northern Division All-Stars 6-3 on Tuesday night at Perdue Stadium, home of the Delmarva Shorebirds in Salisbury, Md.
Buchanan is in his first season with the Lakewood Blue Claws in Lakewood, N.J. after being drafted in the seventh round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft.
The BlueClaws had five representatives in the game, the third most in franchise history.
Thus far in 2011, Buchanan has emerged as the leader of the pitching staff for the BlueClaws, posting a 8-4 record with a 3.21 ERA.
The 22-year-old Buchanan has pitched 87.0 innings, striking out 55 and walking just 23. He leads the Blueclaws in nearly every pitching category.
He made his pro debut as a member of the short-season Williamsport Crosscutters in 2010, going 3-1 with a 4.21 ERA in 12 starts.
