Frady Set for Action at World Port Tournament

ATLANTA- Georgia State head baseball coach Greg Frady is set to lead the German National Baseball Team into action this week at the 13th World Port Tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The pool play tournament will be contested June 23-July 3 at Rotterdam's Neptunus Familystadium.

Frady's 24-man German squad will open the tournament Thursday afternoon with a matchup against Chinese Taipei. The five-team field also includes Cuba, Curacao and the host Dutch. Cuban teams have captured eight of the tournament's first 12 titles, including the last in 2009.

Making their first-ever appearance in the prestigious tournament this year, Germany will play eight games over 12 days, hoping to reach the tournament's championship game on July 3.

Frady has headed the German National Team since 2004, bringing the nation unprecedented baseball success. He was named the 2010 European Coach of the Year after leading Germany to its first medal in the modern era with a third place finish at the European Championships. He also led the German squad to a second place finish at the 2009 World Baseball Challenge.

In March, Frady was a keynote speaker for the German American Chamber of Commerce's Southeast Chapter, discussing the challenges of succeeding in business at an international level.

The 2010-2011 season marked Frady's fifth at Georgia State, as he led the team to another record-setting year. The Panthers posted the second-best record in school history at 37-21, qualifying for their third-straight Colonial Athletic Association Tournament and fourth in Frady's five seasons at GSU.
