Lorentzen, Berryhill Win CAA Scholar-Athlete Awards

ATLANTA-Georgia State golfer Charlotte Lorentzen and track and field standout Yolanda Berryhill have been named Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year for their respective sports.

Lorentzen, a junior from Soroe, Denmark, is the CAA Scholar Athlete of the Year in women's golf for the second straight year. She is also the league's two-time Golfer of the Year. The CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District selection maintains a 3.82 grade point average in journalism.

Berryhill, a senior from Leesburg, Ga., won conference titles in the discus and shot put and was honored as the CAA Most Valuable Performer in Field Events as she led the Panthers to their first CAA championship. She sports a 3.74 GPA in exercise science and was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District III first team.

With these two selections, Georgia State boasts the conference's top scholar-athlete in four different sports for the 2010-11 year, as Vineece Verdun was honored for volleyball and Cody Paulk for women's basketball.

Since GSU joined the league in 2005-06, 18 Panthers in 12 different sports have earned the title of CAA Scholar Athlete of the Year.
