The GSU Spirit program attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and The Universal Dance Association (UDA) camp held at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City Tennessee. While there, GSU, along with teams from Ball State University, Liberty University,  The University of Cincinnati, Morehead State, Western Kentucky, The University of Memphis, Appalachian State, Virginia Tech, Tennessee Tech, and The University of Kentucky,  participated in sessions that instructed the athletes on how to maximize crowd interaction and participation at athletic events. The teams also participated in the camp competitions. The cheerleaders received 3rd place in the sideline chant competition and third place in the Time Out Routine competition. The Pantherettes received first place in the routine that they brought to the camp from home, along with several superior ribbons. The entire program receives that “Game Plan Award” recognizing teams that are running the program in the right direction for today’s college athletic department needs.

The Georgia State Cheerleaders have been nationally ranked in the top 10 at the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Championships for the past seven years. Most recently, the team competed in the Small Coed Division I and received second in 2012 and fifth in 2013. In 2014, the team placed 10th in the 1A Small Coed Division

GSU offers a traditional Co-ed team of up to 8 male/female couples and an All-Girl team of up to 16 females. These two teams appear at all home football games at the Georgia Dome, selected away football games, select Olympic sports games/matches, all home basketball games, and postseason tournaments. Again this season, the top 20 cheer athletes will compete at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Collegiate Nationals in Daytona, Fla. in April. Throughout the year, all of our cheer athletes will be asked to do numerous public appearances. These appearances are part of your responsibilities just as practices, games, and events.

As the ambassadors to the city of Atlanta, the Georgia State Cheer and Dance teams have appeared in the motion picture "The Watch" starring Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. They appeared in the television show, "Drop Dead Divas." In the summer of 2013, the team appeared on "Fox Sports Race Day," live from the Atlanta Motor Speedway. In the summer of 2014, the team will appear on "America's Got Talent."

Many of our current and past cheerleaders have been members of the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Staff and  the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Staff, as well as gone on to be selected to cheer for The Atlanta Hawks NBA cheer and dance teams, and the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders.
