ATLANTA - Georgia State women's golfers Solveig Helgesen, Charlotte Lorentzen and Laura Sanchez were all named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team, as announced by the NGCA office Friday.
Criteria for selection to the All-American scholar team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with the minimum cumulative grade point average being 3.50.
Helgesen, a sophomore from Hagavik, Norway, competed in all 10 of the Panthers' tournaments as a freshman during the team's 2010-11 season. At the Colonial Athletic Association Championship, she recorded her tournament-best 231, as well as a career-low 74 during the opening round of competition. Studying exercise science, Helgesen maintains a 4.03 GPA and has earned a spot on Georgia State's President's List and Dean's List.
Lorentzen, the 2011 CAA Golfer of the Year, is making her second consecutive appearance on the NGCA All-American Scholar team. Hailing from Soroe, Denmark, the senior was recognized earlier this year for her academic achievement, earning the CAA Scholar-Athlete Award as well as a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District second team. Throughout the 2010-11 season, Lorentzen was the Panther's top performer in seven of the team's 10 tournaments and collected three top-5 finishes while maintaining a 74.90 stroke average. Lorentzen upholds a 3.82 GPA while pursuing a degree in journalism.
Sanchez, a sophomore from Bogota, Colombia, garnered three top-20 finishes during her freshman season with the GSU women's golf team. She fired her career-low 71 in the second round of the Panther's home tournament, the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate. Majoring in finance with a 3.66 GPA, Sanchez was named to the Dean's List both fall and spring semesters this past academic year.
