Melissa Schmitz joined the Georgia State Athletics Department in November 2009 and currently serves as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. She currently oversees the sports of sand volleyball, softball, women’s soccer and court volleyball programs at Georgia State.
Upon her arrival to Georgia State, she worked with court volleyball, women’s soccer, cross country, cheerleading and the men and women’s tennis team. In 2010-11, Schmitz worked with softball, women’s basketball, court volleyball and women’s soccer.
Prior to joining Georgia State, Schmitz was a graduate assistant at her alma mater Northern Iowa working with the women’s basketball and women’s soccer teams.
Schmitz played volleyball at Northern Iowa where she helped the squad to three Missouri Valley Conference championships and three appearances in the NCAA tournament. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science in 2007 and earned her Master’s in Exercise Science in 2009.
She has received the following certifications: CSCS, SCCC, USAW-1 and USA Track & Field Level 1.
