Nowacki, Alford Named to NFCA All-Region teams

ATLANTA — Paige Nowacki was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, while Callie Alford earned Second Team honors, the National FastPitch Coaches Association announced Thursday.

A junior third baseman, Nowacki becomes just the second player in Georgia State softball history to land a spot on the All-Region first team. Catcher Catherine Lee was the first to do so as a part of the Southeast Region in 2008.

Nowacki led the Panthers in home runs with 10 during the 2012 season and was named to the All-CAA Tournament team, where GSU finished as the conference runner-up.

A freshman catcher, Alford is now one of three All-Region second team honorees for GSU. McCall Langford earned the distinction last season and Elizabeth Hyman did so in 2006.

Alford paced the team in a number of categories, including RBI (43), doubles (13), total bases (80) and slugging percentage (.494). She was named to the All-CAA second team and All-Rookie team.

This marks the first season that Georgia State has ever had two All-Region selections. All-Region honorees will have a chance to be named as an All-American later this month.
