Former Winthrop thrower Travis Coleman joins the Georgia State track and field program in July 2012 as an assistant coach in charge of throws, multi-events and vertical jumps.
At Winthrop, Coleman was the 2009 Big South Conference champion in the shot put as well as a six-time All-Big South selection. He was a two-time NCAA Regional qualifier and still holds school records in the indoor shot put, outdoor shot put and the hammer throw.
After competing four years for the Eagles, Coleman remained at Winthrop two years as a graduate assistant coach. During the 2012 season, Coleman guided the throwers and jumpers to four all conference selections and one NCAA Regional qualification.
Coleman graduated from Winthrop in the spring of 2010 with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. He completed his Masters’ in Education during the spring of 2012.
The West Milford, W.V. native was a three-time state champion in the shot put and discus while at Robert C. Byrd High School.
He holds USA Track and Field Level I certification.
