ATLANTA--The
Georgia State men's soccer team hosts its final regular-season match of the
2012 season on Sunday afternoon against Stetson at 1 p.m.
The Panthers (5-12-0, 2-8-0) will honor eight student-athletes
prior to Sunday's match for their devotion for the last four years to the team.
In total, the eight seniors have been a part of 29 wins the past four seasons
and have been instrumental in ushering in a new era of Georgia State men's
soccer.
"They've been a big reason why we've been able to turn things
around here," third-year head coach Brett Surrency said. "They have really
meant a lot on and off the field. I feel like they've put a lot into the
program and they deserve to go out winners."
Sunday's match will mark the first time that GSU and Stetson (3-9-2,
2-5-1) have met since 2004. Georgia State owns a commanding 20-7-1 lead in the
all-time series. The match is the season finale for both GSU and Stetson.
GSU is coming off a 2-1 win in overtime in its Colonial Athletic
Association finale vs. George Mason. Senior Alex Vivanco netted the
game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Panthers to the victory. It was his
second goal of the match and his second multi-goal match of the season.
Stetson is led on offense by Kai Eckenrode with five goals and an
assist for 11 points. The Hatters are looking to bounce back from back-to-back
losses to Atlantic Sun foes last week.
Goalkeeper Vincent Foermer, forward Gimel Gordon, midfielder Eric
Lawrence, midfielder Yasser Majluf, midfielder Victor Nkhoma, midfielder Alex
Reyes, defender Peter Vania and Vivanco will all be honored prior to Sunday's
match.
