Kayla Nolan's Double-Double Game Sparks CAA Honors

RICHMOND, Va. (Dec. 17)  - Georgia State sophomore Kayla Nolan has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 10-16.

Nolan produced a double-double game in Sunday's win over Morehead State with 11 rebounds and 10 points. She also had two steals and two assists in the win.  On Thursday at Belmont, Nolan had scored 13 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, made two steals, along with a blocked shot and an assist.

The graduate of Duluth High School in the Atlanta suburb of Duluth leads GSU in scoring this year with her 11.5 point per game. The 5-foot-9 guard averages 6.6 rebounds per game.  Her defense, with 12 steals, and a tenacious man-to-man defensive ability helps Georgia State rank No. 7 in the nation in three-point field goal defense and No. 20 in the NCAA in overall field goal defense.

Nolan has scored in double figures in seven of GSU's eight games in the 6-2 start to the season. She had a personal-best 12 rebounds in the season-opening win at UCF and missed that by one on Sunday.

Nolan becomes the second Georgia State player to receive recognition from the CAA this year as Ashlee Cole was named Rookie of the Week on Nov. 19.

In the classrooms, Nolan maintains a 2.91 cumulative GPA as she has begun her studies in biology and chemistry with aspirations to work in the dentistry field.

Georgia State's 6-2 start to the season propels them to the second-best mark in the CAA, behind only Old Dominion's 6-1 start.
