Jan. 29, 2009 – The bigger they are, the
harder they fall. Old Dominion, a women's program that had won 17 straight
conference championships, was shocked by the upstart Panthers on this evening.
ODU, No. 57 in the RPI rankings, had a 32-29 halftime lead. But, the feisty
Panthers came on strong with a big finish to upset the Monarchs, 75-62. Down
57-54 with seven minutes to go, GSU responded with a 21-5 finish to celebrate
the upset. Freshman PG Crystal Johnson scored 21 points in the second half,
while senior Brittany Hollins had 15 points and seven steals. GSU improved to 9-1
at home and 11-8 overall with this win.
