ATLANTA--Seniors Lucas Santa Ana and Victor Valente broke the Georgia State men's tennis school record for the highest ranked doubles team after earning the No. 38 spot in the ITA National Doubles rankings released on Tuesday.

The two broke the mark of No. 55 set by Martin Steigwardt and Anze Cevka in the final rankings of the 2006 season. Santa Ana and Valente are also the only doubles team to be nationally-ranked since 2006. The two have amassed a 12-0 record so far this season including an 8-6 win against the current No. 4-ranked team of Georgia Tech's Juan Spir and Vikram Hundal.

"I am so proud of both Lucas and Victor, this could not have happened to two better people and better student-athletes," GSU first-year head coach Joerg Barthel said, "This ranking is well deserved and I want them to keep improving so they can finish this year strong."

Valente also jumped in the ITA National Singles rankings to No. 67. He improved from No. 81 in the previous rankings and is 11-2 in singles play so far this season. He owns a 5-2 record against nationally-ranked singles players this season.

GSU also jumped back into the ITA National Team rankings at No. 75. The Panthers (8-6) are coming off a 4-3 win against conference foe Louisiana Lafayette on Saturday.

Georgia State travels to Birmingham, Ala., for a match on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before returning home for a 10 a.m. match next Monday against North Florida at the Blackburn Tennis Center.
