ATLANTA – Georgia State will continue a stretch of three
tournaments in 13 days Saturday at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular hosted by
former CAA foe George Mason at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills,
Fla.
Freshman Jonathan Grey, who recorded his seventh top 20
finish in seven events this year last weekend at the Cleveland Golf/Palmetto
Intercollegiate, will lead the Panthers line-up that will look similar to a
week ago.
Joining Grey will be juniors Tyler Gruca and Grant Cagle,
along with sophomore Davin White who were all in the line-up last week. Junior
Ross Mclister, who is quietly having a solid spring and shot a final round 74
in his last round at Sawgrass, will rejoin the line-up.
Juniors Kevin Lee and Victor Lavin, along sophomore Damon
Stephenson will be competing as individuals this week.
“It worked out perfectly that as we enter spring break,
we were able to take the entire team with us to Florida,” commented head coach
Joe Inman. “We are now in our final stretch run to getting back to the
postseason and for us to see how everyone can perform under tournament pressure
is great.
“Our team feels as though we have not yet peaked this
spring, but are building that way heading to April when we need to be playing
our best. I think this tournament will be a good stepping stone towards our end
of the year goals and hopefully we can return to Atlanta with a victory.”
Along with host George Mason, the field includes Appalachian
State, Connecticut, Florida Atlantic, Hartford, Indiana, Marquette, Morehead
State, Murray State, Northern Illinois, Old Dominion, Purdue, Rutgers, Stetson,
Towson, Virginia Tech and Western Illinois.
Grey leads the team with a 72.09 scoring average this
season, which if the year ended today, would be the sixth lowest mark in school
history. He is currently ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference and has
compiled two wins already this year. He is the running to play in this summer's
Palmer Cup and to earn Freshman All-America honors.
White is currently second on the team with a 73.61
scoring average and has finished in the top 25 in both appearances in the
line-up this spring.
Following the event, Georgia State will conclude the
three-tournament stretch at the Furman Intercollegiate, March 22-24 in
Greenville, S.C.
