ATLANTA—Georgia State’s 2013 season opener will be played on Friday evening, Aug. 30, when the Panthers host Samford at the Georgia Dome.
With the announcement by the National Football League that the Atlanta Falcons will host their final preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Georgia Dome, Georgia State will play the following night as part of a football-filled weekend at the Dome. The opener against Samford kicks off Georgia State’s 12-game slate that includes seven home games at the Georgia Dome and five road games.
For GSU’s inaugural season in the Sun Belt Conference and the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the Panthers will host conference foes Troy, South Alabama, Western Kentucky and Louisiana-Lafayette at the Georgia Dome and will travel to Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe and Texas State.
In addition to the Samford game, Georgia State’s non-conference slate includes Chattanooga and Jacksonville State at home as well as road games at defending national champion Alabama and at West Virginia.
The Panthers will play six bowl teams from 2012 in Alabama, West Virginia, Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Lafayette and Western Kentucky.
