Following Georgia State’s Friday night football practice and in anticipation of Saturday’s scrimmage and Junior Day, head coach Trent Miles unveiled the Panthers new helmet for the 2013 season, which will also be GSU’s first at the FBS level as they move to the Sun Belt Conference.

The helmet is a black facemask and anthracite-color, which is a deep-dark grey, with a Panthers script on the sides.

"We're just trying to maximize everything about our program,” commented Miles. “If it brings excitement to our players and our recruits, then it adds something to our program. We always like to be a little something different, and to put our own look on things. There will be some subtle changes in the uniform, but we will be respectful to the Georgia State brand and what everyone is trying to do.

"This is just a tweak that the players love and recruits seem to like. We just wanted to get them excited, and if a new color does that then great."

The Panthers will return to the practice field on Saturday morning. Spring practice continues through the April 20 Spring Scrimmage, scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Georgia Dome.
