ATLANTA—Georgia State's 2013 season-opening football game against Samford on Friday, Aug. 30 will kick off at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Dome, and all other 2013 home football games will kick off at 2 p.m., Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick announced Thursday.
The 2013 season marks the Panthers' inaugural season in the Football Bowl Subdivision and the Sun Belt Conference, and first year under head coach Trent Miles. The 12-game slate includes seven home games at the Georgia Dome and five road games.
Following the opener against Samford, the Panthers will host non-conference home games against Chattanooga (Sept. 7) and Jacksonville State (Sept. 21) and Sun Belt home dates with Troy (Oct. 12), Western Kentucky (Nov. 2), Louisiana-Lafayette (Nov. 16) and South Alabama (Nov. 30).
In addition to being Georgia State's inaugural Sun Belt Conference contest, the Oct. 12 home game against Troy is the annual Homecoming contest. Other special dates on the schedule include Youth Sports Night (Aug. 30), Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day (Sept. 7), Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts Day (Sept. 21), Family Weekend and Band and Spirit Day (Nov. 2), Hero Appreciation Day (Nov. 16) and Youth Football Day (Nov. 30).
“We are excited to continue our tradition of opening the season with a night game at the Georgia Dome,” Levick said. “That Friday night opener is a great way to kick off the season and the school year, and will be special for our fans to see coach Miles and his staff in action for the first time.”
The start time for two away games have also been set as the Panthers' game at West Virginia will kick off at noon while their first Sun Belt road test at Texas State on Oct. 19 is set for 7 p.m. ET. Kickoff times for the remaining road games, including the Panthers' trip to defending BCS national champion Alabama, have not been announced yet.
