Raffield, Prain Named to ABCA All-Region Team

ATLANTA – Georgia State designated hitter Chase Raffield was named first-team All-Atlantic Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), while shortstop Chad Prain was tabbed to the second team.

A junior left-handed hitter from Cochran, Ga., Raffield hit .382 on the season. The second-team all-conference DH was the Panthers' top power-hitter and run-producer, leading the team with 10 home runs, 51 runs batted in and a .645 slugging percentage. He ranked fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association in batting average (26th in the NCAA), third in slugging percentage and sixth in RBI.

As a first-team All-Atlantic Region selection, Raffield is now eligible for the ABCA All-America team, which will be announced later this week.

Prain, a junior from Valdosta, Ga., is the first-team All-CAA shortstop and one of the nation's leading hitters, ranking 11th in the NCAA with a .394 batting average. He collected 48 RBI and smacked four homers, one triple and 16 doubles.

Prain also stole 15 bases, and he helped the Panthers rank among the nation's top 20 with 57 double plays.

In addition to All-CAA and All-Atlantic Region honors, Prain was a semifinalist for the inaugural Gregg Olson Award as the national “Breakout Player of the Year,” and he was recognized on the watch list for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award.

Raffield and Prain, who helped Georgia State to a 35-21 record in 2013, are the Panthers' first ABCA All-Region honorees since 2000.
