ATLANTA -- Georgia State's Jerry Stuckey was named Pitcher of the Week in the Sunbelt League, an Atlanta-based collegiate summer league, for the week ending June 16.
The right-hander from Perry, Ga., is pitching for the Douglasville Bulls after finishing his sophomore season at GSU.
On June 10 against the Home Plate Chukars, Stuckey came on in relief of San Francisco Giants draft pick Nick Jones with bases loaded and one out and his team trailing 3-0. Stuckey struck out the next two hitters to get out of the inning, and then he went on to set down 14 consecutive batters. He finished the outing with 11 strikeouts in 5.2 innings while not allowing a run.
Stuckey then earned his first start June 15 against the Berkeley Lake Tides and tossed six scoreless innings on just five hits to earn his first victory.
For the season, Stuckey has 19 strikeouts and just two walks in 12.2 innings.
For the Panthers this spring, he posted a 3-2 record with three saves, working as both a starter and reliever, helping Georgia State to a 35-21 record.
