ATLANTA – The Georgia State baseball program will honor the Panthers' long-time play-by-play announcer Dave Cohen at Saturday's home game against Texas State.
Georgia State hosts the Bobcats in a Sun Belt Conference series this weekend at the GSU Baseball Complex. Saturday's game is slated for a 2 p.m. start, and Cohen will throw out the first pitch at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Head coach Greg Frady and the Panthers will recognize Cohen for his many years of service to Georgia State athletics and particularly to the baseball program.
A graduate of Georgia State and the Voice of the Panthers for more than 30 years, Cohen has called well over 1,000 GSU events in baseball, basketball and football.
He began broadcasting baseball games in the mid-1980s and has described many of the top moments in Panther annals, highlighted by the 2009 Colonial Athletic Association championship and NCAA Regional appearance.
“Dave is one of the most respected, recognizable staff members we have at Georgia State,” Frady said. “It has been my honor to work with him for the last 11 years. I truly appreciate all that he has contributed to our baseball program and our athletic department. Congratulations to a valued member of our Panther Family.”
Cohen has called the action for numerous All-Americans and future professional players, including current Philadelphia Phillies pitcher David Buchanan, who pitched for the Panthers in 2010 and went on to become Georgia State's first Major League player.
