* Georgia State lost to Alabama 80-57 Thursday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

* The Panthers were led by Makeba Ponder who scored all 15 points on three-pointers.

* Next up for Georgia State is the GSU Holiday Classic Dec. 20-22 at the Sports Arena.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Georgia State and Alabama met for the 11th time Thursday afternoon with the Crimson Tide knocking off the Panthers 80-57 at Coleman Coliseum.

Junior Makeba Ponder came off the bench and led Georgia State in scoring with 15 points. All of Ponder’s points came off three-pointers as she continued her rise towards the GSU career record. Entering the day, Ponder ranked fifth in GSU history with 127 long balls. With five more on Thursday, Ponder passed both Carmelita Layog and Monica Thomas to move into third place in the school record books. Ponder needs 22 to catch Kelcey Rogiers who sits in second with 154.

Tiffany Holston added eight points and eight rebounds for Georgia State and K.K. Williams totaled eight points as well. Astaja Tyghter scored seven with six rebounds off the bench and forwards Taleah Williams and Haley Gerrin combined for 10 rebounds and seven points.

The Panthers fell behind early on, but turned up the pressure on defense in the second quarter to pull within five of the Crimson Tide before halftime. But Alabama would use an 18-6 third quarter to pull away and clinch the victory.

Next up for Georgia State is the three-day GSU Holiday Classic featuring the Panthers along with Akron and Elon in the GSU Sports Arena Dec. 20-22. GSU will face Akron on Dec. 20 and Elon on Dec. 22 with Akron and Elon facing off on the middle day.
