* Georgia State fell 72-65 Thursday night at Louisiana.

* The Panthers were led by Jada Lewis’ 19 points and Tiffany Holston’s 12 points and seven rebounds.

* Georgia State stays in Louisiana to take on UL Monroe on Saturday afternoon.

LAFAYETTE, La. - Georgia State pulled within four of Louisiana in the second half Thursday night, but the Ragin’ Cajuns held on to defeat the Panthers 72-65. Jada Lewis, Tiffany Holston and Makeba Ponder each scored double digits for GSU.

Louisiana led for the majority of the game, but Georgia State kept fighting back to stay within striking distance. Jada Lewis had 17 points in the first half, but Louisiana led the Panthers 35-28 at the break as the rest of the Panthers struggled to get it going on offense.

Tiffany Holston and Makeba Ponder came alive in the second half and helped lead the GSU rally as the Panthers cut an 11-point deficit all the way down to four. Holston finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while Ponder tallied 15 points.

The Panthers grabbed nine steals, but were outrebounded 39-32. One bright spot for GSU was a nice night at the free throw line as the team went 20-for-24.

Georgia State (5-10, 1-3 SBC) travels to Monroe, La. to play ULM on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
