ATLANTA - For the second time in as many games, Georgia State rallied to take a late lead, but once again the Panthers couldn’t manage to pull it out, losing 73-67 Saturday to Coastal Carolina.
The Panthers went down with more than eight minutes left in the second quarter, but continued to fight and mounted a successful comeback in the final period to grab a lead with around five minutes to go. Coastal responded to go back in front by five with 37 seconds left. Tatianna Jackson hit a big 3-pointer to bring GSU back within two, but CCU would make its free throws down the stretch to hang on.
Kierra Henry scored a career-high 14 points, eight of which came in the second half. Tiffany Holston matched her season-high 17 rebounds and scored nine points, coming up just shy of her fifth double-double of the year.
The Panthers outrebounded the Chanticleers 42-35 and held a 19-10 edge on the offensive boards. Coastal Carolina managed 26 points off turnovers while GSU tallied 16.
Makeba Ponder hit four 3-pointers on Saturday to pull within one of tying Kelcey Rogiers for second place on GSU’s all-time career 3-pointers list.
