ATLANTA - Georgia State's softball team brought the game-winning run to the plate in the seventh inning Thursday night, but were unable to come back against Michigan State, losing 5-2.

The Panthers fell behind 3-0 in the top of the third after Michigan State hit a three-run homer. The Spartans added on another run in the fourth and used a solo homer in the top fo the sixth to go on top 5-0.

Georgia State's offense got going in the bottom of the sixth as Kirsten McMonigle led off with a triple to left-center. Ivie Drake picked up an RBI on a groundout to bring GSU's first run in. The Panthers mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, drawing a bases loaded walk to bring the winning run to the plate. The Spartans induced a popout, however, to end the threat and win the game 5-2.

Mandy Chance was hit with just her second loss of the season after going four innings and giving up four runs on six hits. Kinsley Jennings threw the final three innings and held MSU to just one run.

Georgia State falls to 13-9 on the year and begins Sun Belt play this weekend with a home series against South Alabama. The Panthers and Jaguars will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. and a finale at noon on Sunday.
