ATLANTA -- Ryan Blanton and Jaylen Woullard homered, but Georgia State fell 10-7 to UT Arlington in the Sun Belt Conference opener Friday at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Blanton gave Georgia State (9-9, 0-1 Sun Belt) the early lead when he cleared the bases with a grand slam to right field in the second inning for his team-leading fourth homer of the season and No. 19 of his career.

That put GSU up 4-0, but UT Arlington (10-9, 1-0 Sun Belt) answered in its next at bat on Omar Salinas' two-run homer to pull within 4-2.

Then the Mavericks took the lead with four runs in the fourth. Noah Vaughan hit a two-run homer to tie the game. Zac Cook followed with a run-scoring double and then came home on Easton Johnson's single.

UTA led 8-4 in the eighth when Romero Greer and Darius Sewell singled to put runners at first and second with one out. That brought Woullard to the plate, and he hit the first pitch over the right field fence for his first homer of the season.

But UT Arlington added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to seal the game.

Mavericks starter Kadon Simmons (2-2) pitched seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, to earn the win. Daniel James picked up his second save.

Georgia State had 12 hits in the game, but the Panthers hit into two rally-killing double plays. The Panthers also hurt themselves with four errors, leading to four unearned runs.
