Jonesboro, Ark. -- Georgia State fell 14-1 at Arkansas State in Friday's Sun Belt Conference series opener at Tomlinson Stadium.

Cam Sperry homered for the Panthers, who suffered their eighth straight loss, falling to 11-18, 1-9 in the Sun Belt.

Georgia State managed six hits, but hit into three double plays, including one with the bases loaded.

Arkansas State (16-14, 5-5 Sun Belt) opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning off GSU starter Bryce Conley (2-6). The Panthers cut the deficit in half on Sperry's homer in the fifth, a solo blast to right field and his second of the season. But ASU answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Panther pitching staff continued to struggle with control, allowing 12 walks.

Arkansas State starter Bo Ritter (2-1) allowed just one run on five hits with nine strikeouts.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN3/WatchESPN.
