GREENVILLE, S.C.- The No. 35 Georgia State men’s tennis team closed out its regular season with a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Furman. Junior Sebastian Acuna clinched the match at the No. 5 position, his third clinch of the season.

With the victory, the Panthers improved to 16-6 overall (3-1 SBC) while the Paladins fell to 16-7.

Georgia State dropped the doubles point for the first time in seven matches, with Acuna and Jack MacFarlane falling 6-3 before the Paladins clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Felipe Jaworski and Quentin Coulaud.

No. 81 Zackery Kennedy was the first Panther to finish, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Adam Steryous in the No. 1 match. Jannis Koeke earned the first singles point for GSU, defeating Jake Munns 6-2, 6-1. Furman went ahead of Georgia State 3-1 as Coulaud fell 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 match, with Clarke Wilson earning the last point for the Paladins.

Andrei Andrukhou defeated Cameron Green 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 2 match, before Jaworski tied the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jake Bhangdia. Acuna clinched the match for the Panthers with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 victory over Alex Steryous to extend Georgia State’s win-streak to eight matches.

GSU will return to the court in New Orleans for the Sun Belt Championships from April 21-23. The bracket for the tournament will be announced by Tuesday.
