BOONE, N.C. -- Georgia State dropped a doubleheader at Appalachian State, 6-1 and 13-1 Saturday at Smith Stadium.

Appalachian State (16-24, 6-12 Sun Belt) took the series after the Panthers (14-25, 4-14 Sun Belt) won the series opener 8-6 Friday in a game
that ended at 11:30 p.m. due to a four-hour rain delay. The start of Saturday's doubleheader was delayed about hour before beginning at 1:50
p.m. The teams played through rain in the early innings but were not interrupted again the rest of the day.

Georgia State took an early 1-0 lead in both games but could not muster much offense after that, managing six hits in each game.

Nick Gatewood had four hits on the day, including a 3-for-3 outing in Game 1, while Ryan Blanton and Jaylen Woullard each had three hits in the

In Game 1, Jarrett Hood led off the second inning with home run to left center, his second homer of the season for a 1-0 lead. But the
Mountaineers answered with Avery Jackson's solo homer in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, and then took the lead for good with two
more runs in the third off GSU starter Devin Vainer (0-1).

The score remained 3-1 until the seventh inning, when App State scored an unearned run, and then the Mountaineers extended their lead to 6-1 on
Brian Bauk's two-run homer in the eighth.

Game 2 also had a positive start for the Panthers as Blanton led off with a single and came home on Gatewood's double down the right field
line. But the lead was short-lived as App State moved ahead for good with four runs in the second off GSU starter Jordan Lee (1-2).

The Panthers have no mid-week game this week due to final exams and will return to action Friday to open a Sun Belt Conference series against
ULM at the GSU Baseball Complex.
