ATLANTA -- With the series already clinched and its spot in the Sun Belt Conference Championship secured, Georgia State fell 13-3 to Georgia Southern in Saturday's regular-season finale at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Cam Sperry, one of six seniors honored before the game, drove in two runs for the Panthers (22-32, 10-20), and senior Jaylen Woullard knocked in one. Catcher Nick Gatewood went 3-for-4.

Georgia Southern (36-20, 18-12) jumped in front with four runs in the first inning, but the Panthers answered with two in their half. After Justin Jones walked and Gatewood doubled, Sperry delivered a two-out, two-run single to right field to cut the deficit in half.

But the Eagles added a run in the third and then scored three in the fourth to take control with an 8-2 lead.

Georgia State clinched the series by winning 9-7 on Thursday and 7-6 on Friday, securing a berth in the Sun Belt Conference Championship, which begins Tuesday in Statesboro, Ga. The Panthers are the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 seed Arkansas State Tuesday at 3 p.m.

"I'm extremely pleased to win the series against a good team and our rival; that's what you set out to do. Of course, we would have loved to win today and sweep the series, but it wasn't in the cards.

"I think the program took a step forward late in the season, being able to battle back after a tough start and qualify for the tournament."

Six Georgia State seniors were honored before their final home game, including center fielder Ryan Blanton, who had seven RBI in the series including the go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning of Thursday's win.

"It has been an honor to coach these seniors," Frady said. "Their legacy is going to be beating Georgia Southern in this series to qualify for the tournament, and I'm glad they were able to go out that way."
