ATLANTA- In its conference opener against Texas State, the Georgia State women’s soccer team fell 3-1 at the GSU Soccer Complex Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Panthers fell to 2-5-1 and the Bobcats improved to 3-3-1.

Texas State was able to get on the board early, with Rachel Grout scoring off a deflected ball in the box in the 19th minute. The team scored again just before the end of the first at the 44-minute mark, putting the score at 2-0 going into halftime.

Freshman Olivia Francis made her second career start in the first half, making three saves against the Bobcats.

Coming into the second half, the Panthers created several chances to score. The team took 10 shots, but four Bobcat saves kept GSU from capitalizing.

In the 85th minute, a foul in the box earned Yvonne Ploeg a penalty kick. Her second goal of the season put GSU within one goal. Less than a minute later, Texas State earned a penalty kick to go up 3-1.

Brooke Shank and Alex Addington led the team with three shots each, with two of Shank’s being on target.

The team will continue conference play at the GSU Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon against Appalachian State at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com. Parking and admission to the GSU Soccer Complex are free.
