With the win, the Panthers improved to 4-3 while the Eagles fell to 2-3-1.

Georgia State outshot Winthrop 9-5 to open the game, with three shots on target. The team maintained control of the ball for the majority of the first half, giving the Eagles little time of possession.

Winthrop was able to get on the board first, with Nil Vinyals netting the ball in the fourteenth minute. The Panthers answered quickly, as Alarape tied the match at the 19-minute mark of an assist from Salomon Lorenzano.

The Panthers came out of halftime looking to put the game away, 16 shots in the second half. The Eagles were able to edge GSU 2-1 in minute 77, but Georgia State answered in the 85th minute. Kyle Clinton tied the match with a header off a free throw from Liam Fitzsimmons, forcing the match into overtime.

Georgia State was able to put the game away in the second overtime, with Alarape scoring the game-winner off a penalty kick in the 106th minute.

GSU outshot the Eagles 31-12, the most shots the team has taken in a match all year.

"We're pleased that the guys were able to overcome Winthrop, the heat, and a very heavy field," head coach Brett Surrency said. "It wasn't our sharpest day but we found a way to win and that is the sign of a good team."

The Panthers will close out September play on the road, traveling to South Carolina and Florida for a three-match road stretch.

GSU will return to the field on Tuesday at Presbyterian at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.
