Alex Leatu joined the Panther family after two years as the head women's tennis coach at the University of New Haven. Prior to her coaching career, Leatu enjoyed a five-year playing career at Vanderbilt University and Baylor University.
In June of 2018 Leatu was named Georgia State Women's Tennis Interim Head Coach. In July, Leatu accepted the position of head coach.
Leatu competed in her first competitive tournament at age eight. Alex reached the top ten in USTA 14, 16, and 18 and under. Leatu has won three national titles in singles and three national titles in doubles. She won two silver balls in USTA doubles play, and one bronze ball in USTA single action. Leatu has won two ITF Grade 3 tournaments.
Leatu began her collegiate career with Vanderbilt, where she earned Second Team All-SEC honors, and was named to the SEC All-Tournament team. She played number one singles and number one doubles as a freshman, and was ranked as a top 75 player by the ITA. Leatu transferred to Baylor University where she was a three-time Big 12 Conference Champion. Baylor reached a top-15 team rating with Leatu on the team.
Alex began her coaching career as the head coach for the University of New Haven. Leatu then tried a new path by accepting a position at the exclusive TBarM Racquet Club as a high performance academy coach. She is currently working towards her USPTA P1 certification.
