JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Georgia State men’s soccer team closed out September play with a tough 2-1 loss at Jacksonville.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 6-4 and the Dolphins improved to 1-7.
GSU fired seven shots to start the match, with Frank Rosenwald and Liam Fitzsimmons leading the team with two shots each. Georgia State got on the board with an own goal from Jacksonville, after a shot from Fitzsimmons was deflected off a Dolphin defender and hit the net in the 41st minute.
Jacksonville was able to tie the match quickly, scoring at the 58-minute mark. The Dolphins pulled ahead of the Panthers in the 83rd minute, putting the team up 2-1 on a penalty kick.
Georgia State led the shot count 12-10, but five Jacksonville saves kept the Panthers from edging the Dolphins.
Georgia State will return to the field Tuesday night at home against UAB to open October play. The match will stream live on PantherVision.
