WILMINGTON, N.C. - Georgia State's women's basketball team fell 74-62 to UNCW Thursday in the team's final non-conference game.
Three Panthers finished in double figures led by Shay Fluker's 22 points. Fluker added nine rebounds and was a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line. Kierra Henry tallied double-digit points for the 10th straight game, finishing with 14. Madison Newby tallied 11 points and added five steals on defense.
The Panthers got off to a fast start and held a 24-13 advantage after the first period, but the Seahawks bounced back with a 25-9 second quarter to hold the lead at the break. Georgia State made several runs at the lead in the second half, cutting the deficit to three on two separate occasions.
UNCW outrebounded GSU 40-35 and the Seahawks took advantage of GSU mistakes, scoring 24 points off turnovers.
The Panthers finish the non-conference schedule with a 4-7 record and will begin Sun Belt play Dec. 29 at South Alabama.
