TAMPA, Fla. – Georgia State’s softball team lost a pair of games Saturday at the Wilson DeMarini Classic hosted by USF in Tampa, Fla.

The Panthers lost to No. 2 Florida in the first game of the day. The second-ranked Gators jumped on top early and defeated the Panthers 11-0 in five innings.

The Panthers took on Illinois State later in the day in what turned into an exciting contest between the Panthers and the Redbirds.

GSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when freshman Skylar Mosel picked up her first career hit, an RBI-single.

Illinois State then put up five runs on five hits in the bottom half of the second to go up 5-1.

In the top of the third, Megan Litumbe made it a one-run game with her first home run of the season, a three-run jack to make it 5-4.

The Redbirds extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth to go in front 7-4.

In the top of the seventh, Georgia State made things interesting when Ivie Drake hit a two-run homer with no outs to bring the Panthers back within one. It was Drake’s second home run of the weekend.

GSU got a runner on base with one out, but couldn’t push across the tying run and the game went final at 7-6 in favor of Illinois State.
