ATLANTA – Georgia State’s softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Saturday against Sun Belt-foe Texas State at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.
Game 1: Texas State 2, Georgia State 0
Georgia State managed six hits against Texas State’s Randi Rupp but was unable to push any runs across as the Panthers were shutout in Game 1 of the doubleheader.
Kinsley Jennings pitched a gem in the circle for Georgia State, going all seven innings allowing just two runs and striking out three.
Texas State scored both their runs in the fourth inning and finished the game with eight hits.
Ivie Drake went 1-for-3 for GSU with a double.
Game 2 (10 innings): Texas State 5, Georgia State 4
Georgia State and Texas State played a thriller in Game 2, going ten innings with both teams scoring a combined five runs in extras.
Mandy Chance got the start in the circle and was superb in the first nine innings, but Texas State struck for three runs in the top of the 10th to chase Chance from the game.
The Panthers trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth when the Bobcats brought Randi Rupp on in relief after Reagan Morgan reached base. Ivie Drake greeted Rupp with a line-drive double to the right-center field gap that scored Morgan all the way from first to tie the game at 2-2.
Georgia State loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the eighth when Arden Jobe drove a fly ball all the way to the wall in left field, missing a walk-off grand slam by just a few feet.
Texas State’s three runs in the top of the 10th gave the Bobcats a 5-2 advantage and Georgia State, down to their last out in the home half, got a runner on base as Drake knocked a single to left. Megan Litumbe then sent her fourth home run of the season over the wall in left to make it a 5-4 game.
Remington Hasty beat out an infield single to keep the rally going, but the Panthers’ comeback would come up just short as Rupp closed the door to get the win for Texas State.
The Panthers fell to 13-10 with the losses as Texas State improved to 17-7.
Sunday’s series finale is scheduled for a noon start. A free audio stream of the game will be available on GeorgiaStateSports.com and through the GSU Athletics mobile app.
