ATLANTA- The Georgia State men’s tennis team closed out SBC play with a 4-3 victory over Louisiana Friday afternoon. Junior Giles Hussey clinched the match, his first of the season

With the win, the Panthers improved to 11-9 (2-1 SBC) while the Ragin’ Cajuns fell to 12-9 (1-1 SBC).

GSU dominated in doubles play, taking all three courts. Andrei Andrukhou and Bailey Showers earned their first victory as a pair, defeating Nico Sojka and Pearse Dolan 6-1. Hussey and Jack MacFarlane clinched doubles with a 6-2 win over Jamie Fraser and Arthur Libaud, while Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Duarte closed doubles play with a 6-4 victory.

The Panthers came out strong in singles play, quickly going up 2-0 after Andrukhou earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position. Louisiana cut the lead to 2-1 on court 5 as Showers fell 6-1, 6-4. GSU bounced back quickly, with MacFarlane earning a 6-2, 6-3 win and Hussey clinching the match 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3 position.

After the clinch Georgia State played through, with Quentin Coulaud falling at the No. 3 position 7-5, 7-5 and Acuna falling 7-5, 6-2 to Elio Lago.

The Panthers will return to the court Sunday, hosting UNCW for the home finale. Senior day activities will begin prior to the match, with Acuna and Andrukhou being recognized.
