TALLAHASSE- GSU Beach split a pair of duals Friday at the Seminole Beach Battle in Tallahassee. The Panthers began the day by losing 4-1 to TCU, but ended the afternoon on a high note defeating CCSA foe UAB 3-2.
In the morning action Tiffany Creamer and Brooke Weiner won 21-18, 21-16 in straight sets to give the Panthers their only win of the dual. GSU dropped the first set on both the four and the five courts, but would rally to win the second game on both courts before dropping the third.
A week removed from their thrilling 17-15 third set win over TCU, Annika and Teegan Van Gunst had another epic battle with the Horned Frogs’ top pair. The twins lost a marathon 33-31 first set and would lose 21-9 in the second giving TCU a 4-1 victory.
The Panthers are now 1-1 on the season against TCU, with the rubber match coming next Saturday at LSU’s Battle on the Bayou.
The afternew saw GSU quickly fall behind 2-0 despite Ashley McGinn and Allie Elson pushing their match to three games. The comeback would be on after Olivia Stasevich and Georgia Johnson took a two-set win 21-18, 21-14 in the three slot for GSU.
Creamer and Weiner would take their second victory of the day 21-15, 21-16 in the two flight to even the dual 2-2. The Van Gust sisters would close things out for the Panthers with a 21-13, 22-20 win in the one flight, clinching the 3-2 decision.
Georgia State will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Seminole Beach Battle. The Panthers will take on UNC Wilmington in the morning session before closing things out against tournament host FSU.
