ATLANTA- Georgia State women’s tennis comeback bid came up just short Friday afternoon against Georgia Southern. The Eagles defeated the Panthers 4-3 at GSU Clarkston Campus, despite State getting singles wins from Damira Muminović, Daniela Ramirez, and Kristin Rehse.

GSU was in an immediate hole after dropping the doubles point. Due to the Panthers not having a player in the five or six singles flights, State entered singles action down 3-0.

Georgia State would earn one of the points back quickly as Damira Muminović would take a 6-2, 6-2 win on court three. The victory was the thirteenth on the year for the sophomore and her first in the number three position.

Daniela Ramirez would win 7-5, 6-1 to make the match score 3-2, before Southern clinched the victory on court four. After a brief rain delay, Kristin Rehse won in three sets to make the final 4-3.

The Panthers will be back on the courts Sunday for a 9:00 a.m. match at Piedmont Park. GSU will take on South Alabama while Georgia State men’s tennis team battles UNCW. Rehse and two seniors from the men’s team will be honored in a joint Senior Day celebration prior to the matches.
