*Georgia State beach volleyball swept UNC Wilmington 5-0 Saturday morning in Tallahassee.
*Their second match of the day was cancelled due to lightning in the area.
TALLAHASSE- GSU Beach won their only match of the day on a weather shortened Saturday at the Seminole Beach Battle. The Panthers defeated UNCW 5-0, but their match with Florida State was cancelled due to lightning in the area.
Amie Held and Kate Novack got things started for GSU with a strong 21-15, 21-14 win on court number four. The Van Gunst sisters would follow with a two-set win of their own, 22-20, 21-17 in the one flight to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the dual.
Georgia State would clinch the dual thanks to a 21-15, 21-15 win from Ashley McGinn and Allie Elson in the five spot in the lineup. Brooke Weiner and Tiffany Creamer would add a three set win, giving the Panthers’ two pair a perfect 3-0 weekend. Olivia Stasevich and Georgia Johnson would polish off the sweep with a three set win of their own.
The win was the 20th on the season for GSU, marking the third straight year Beth Van Fleet has led the team to 20 or more victories. The Panthers are 20-8 on the season and 7-5 in CCSA play.
State will face their final regular season test next weekend at LSU’s Battle on the Bayou. The Panthers will take on FSU for the second time this season, and face TCU and LSU for a third meeting. Georgia State will battle University of New Orleans for the first time next weekend.
